Edenton, NC – The Sustainable Furnishings Council is accepting entries for the 2018 #GetYourGreenOn design competition, a program that recognizes and awards sustainable and healthful choices in residential interior design.
Both SFC-member and non-member interior designers and firms are eligible to enter the competition, now in its third year, which has garnered attention on social media, during national home furnishings markets, and in both industry and consumer media.
Residential interior design projects completed between April 1, 2017, and March 31, 2018, qualify for this year’s competition. Entries must feature at least one product from an SFC-member manufacturer or supplier.
New for 2018: Entrants are asked to share their best practices for determining if the wood furniture and furnishings they specified were made from responsibly sourced wood. In addition, entrants are asked to detail their efforts to reduce hazardous chemicals (especially flame-retardant chemicals, fluorinated stain treatments, antimicrobials, vinyl, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including formaldehyde) in their residential interior design projects. These questions align with SFC’s “What’s it made of?” initiative, which encourages transparency in supply chains and stimulates innovation to eliminate hazardous substances in homes.
“Designers, with a finger on the pulse of consumer concern for health and well-being at home, are well-positioned to nudge manufacturers toward more responsible sourcing and production policies,” says Susan Inglis, SFC Executive Director. “Many are finding it is also good for their own businesses to make choices to protect a healthier future.”

Both a winner and a finalist can be named in three categories, each with two total-project-cost classifications. In addition, the #GetYourGreenOn competition awards a grand prize, the Design Excellence Award, to a single entry.

Private Spaces — $30,000 and Under Private Spaces — $30,001 and Above
Outdoor Spaces — $30,000 and Under Outdoor Spaces — $30,001 and Above
